where can i get certified to be a dog groomer without paying close to 4k or leaving my current job in dallas?
i live in addison, tx....near dallas. i know petco and petsmart will train but i do love my current part time job and don't want to leave quite yet. i have looked online and elsewhere but the only way to go cheaper is to get a home study course. does it really matter where i get certified as long as i am certified? would people still take their dogs to me if i have a home study certificate of achievement?
I started out as a Brusher & Bather in a Grooming Shop. Then learned the different steps & the different clips from the owner of the shop. It took about 6 months before she let me do a dog from start to finish.
I encouraged owners to stay with their dogs & most people had no ideas as to how many things you actually do to the dogs in a shop. When you can scissor clip a Standard Poodle in a full lamb cut you are good. Or scissor clip a Bichon.
See if you can start that way. Work a few years at the shop that taught you cause most shop won't hire someone until they have had 3 to 5 years of experience.
It is very rewarding to take a shaggy, matted dog & turn it into a piece of art that the owners are so pleased with. It also makes you feel proud to be able to create such a beauty.
Don't listen to those who degrade the job, it is hard work but it is also rewarding.
