Best of breed of dog to adopt for a student?

I want to adopt a dog, but need help in identifying which breed would be best for my situation. I am a student, living alone in an apartment (no pets, but the movement of animals in an apartment company in August, when I pass). I know that the liability in question, as I have owned dogs before. I'm not here to Class of 2-5 hours per day but otherwise the time. I am happy to take the dog for a walk up to an hour a day (maybe more?), And if an individual athletic dog, I do not mind my butt to get fit for jogging or hiking. I need a dog that barks not much and not too hyper-active. I would prefer not a huge shedder (whatever correct). I would prefer a dog quite friendly with humans and other animals. I looked at petfinder.com, to know the local emergency shelter and spent a few dog breed selectors / online quiz. I wanted an entry (one entry - not just on race) real people though. Thank you in advance!

You will probably receive a lot of people suggested you their favorite breed, I suggest you do some introspection. Where do you live? Determine a local breed of dog. Hot or cold? the long hair rivers / lakes and Short? Retrievers love water. Rural or city? Are you dominate? Some breeds require more master control then others, as chows, pit bulls, Akita, etc. Have you ever trained a dog? Some breeds require more training, others less. A golden retriever is perfectly happy laying around waiting for you, but black labs have to do things all day, or they are destructive. Do you think your recyclable? You must you practice as much as you train your dog. You must do exactly the same thing, dogs do not like the variety. Hopefully, this will help you decide, but read about all the races before you get into the shelters. Do not be one of those guys who use a dog just to pick up chicks ... use a dog to be your best friend.
