Housebreaking a dog requires to have a lot of patient. If you spend enough time and effort to housebreak your dog, the benefit will be for long run and last for the rest of your dog’s life. You need to teach your dog to excrete outdoors in a specific place as soon as you bring it home. Otherwise it will continue to urinate all over your house and create a lot of trouble for you.
Most dogs can recognize words that they hear repeatedly. If you provide them with sufficient training, they can associate your words with what you want them to do. For instance, if you continue to say "go potty" while your dog is relieving outdoors, over a while your dog will associate "go potty" with relieving itself.
If your dog is relieving inside the house, you can say "no, get out," once again your dog will associate this word instruction with something it should not do indoors but outside the house. Most training manual on "housebreaking a dog" will never suggest you to beat your dog during word command training. If you spend enough time with your dog, it will learn the word ‘no’ and link it to some bad behaviors it should not do.
You must not forget to bring your dog outdoors and tell your dog to "go potty." Leave the dog outdoors until it has relieved, and repeat this procedure until your dog finally does it outdoors.
Dogs are like human and love to be praised. If your dog follows your word command, you should credit your dog and give it a little treat. Your dog will link the particular word command with what you want it to do so it can continue to receive your treat.
