Is there a "council of the trade" to train a Bichon Frise puppy?
I am getting a male Bichon puppy tomorrow. Is there some advice on housebreaking, feeding, training, etc? In addition, the local pet store, the owner told my family that some people bring their small breeds (Maltese, Lhasa, etc) and just left them so the dog can go, or who are in their cage, if not carried. Is this true? If so, does it really take only two weeks? Only responses from people with experience bichon. Thanks!
Who owns the pet store sounds like an idiot. That's "method" most ridiculous Potty Training I've ever heard! The dogs are * * means that all four legs on the ground. No must be constantly carried all the time. * * You need stimulation and exercise that gives them walk around and explore their environment. This is what dogs do. If actually buying this puppy from the pet store, please reconsider. Pet store puppies come from puppy mills and are known to have problems poor health and temperament ... And you would be supporting puppy mills. What WILL help with potty training is to keep your new puppy on a leash at home, as he closely monitored. This serves two purposes ... let the leash drag behind him will get him used to have that is not naturally to the cubs. It also helps him as a hawk, and take the strap to carry it out when he has to "go" ... recognize the signs (Inhalation, yarn etc,). You can start training things like "sit" and "down" immediately, as soon as you bring your puppy home. Sure that you pay each time * it works fine. Do not get impatient or frustrated with him when he is learning ... make training fun, keep the sessions short. Puppies have a service capacity of about 2 seconds LOL. Ask your breeder about feeding schedule. Young, small breed puppies that have 3-4 meals a day ... amounts are based on age and weight of your puppy. Good luck.
