Process of adopting an adult dog from the shelter .... any stories? tip? experience?
I want to adopt an adult dog from the local shelter. I DO love the puppy stage and call me crazy but I love them training and housebreaking them everything. Haha but I went to the shelter and saw so many very nice dog that I love. So when I get my dog around Christmas, I want it to be from the shelter if I can convince my dad --- who will pay for hundreds a purebred puppy but dosent think you can get your money worth for a dog that is not AKC registered or an adult ... What is the process of bringing a dog home from the shelter? The checks they do at home? If you can give my tips on bonding with an adult dog and everything that would be great! If you have adopted can you tell me how the first few months went for you and your new dog? Thank you! I am 17 years old by the way, I know it probably sounds sweeping through reading this I sound about 10 in all my father convining crap but hey they are paying for it. Haha.
Well, 4 of 5 of my dogs are rescues, and even though I love them with all my heart but I do not know how much adopting i do. 2 of them have terrible genetic problem and have cost me thousands, and 2 of them are very difficult behavioral issues that have taken intense training to get them to where I'm comfortable with them being around other dogs, and people. I took it in, and I love them very much but you just do not know what you will get a shelter dog. One is supopsed to be a small terrier mix that 'supposedly' born with a jack Russel shelter for a mother. Turns out he is a £ 55 apbt mix that I got in about 5 weeks old and they would swear she was 8 weeks old. (That explains the small size making me believe he is a Jack Russel) If I borrow again, this is an older dog that I can evaluate his temperament, and see that he does not have hip displaysia (or any other defect). Im not manage to adopting, im just saying that you should really pay attention to your dogs adopting. On visits home, they always claim to do home visits, but in all my years, I have never been visited.
