questions navy SAR training and qualifications?
I want to join the navy to be on the SAR (search and rescue) aircrew. Ideally, id like as to become a SAR aircrew rescue swimmer but works too. I'm about as fit as your average guy. I'm willing to work and train as hard as phyisically possible to get a job I like, but I'm wondering if anyone has thought, an average person can go to basic training and be fit enough to train for SAR swimming, If not, what are some good air crew work, the better the helecopter aircrew.
Christobar - An average person who is ready to work out (assuming you have enough and swimmer) should not have too much trouble being physically helpless as a SAR swimmer. There are physical needs, but the requirements for SAR swimmers are not anything like buds or Seal training. So, do not worry too much about it. Also, from the Navy realigned aircrewman ratings about 5 or 6 years ago, I think that all SAR crewmen have to swimmers - is not the case ~ 10 years ago. I'm biased, but I think that the Navy helicopter community is great. You enjoy the camaraderie. Hope this helps / / Navy Helo Pilot
